Consultation has concluded
About the Project
Katherine Town Council has developed a draft Shared Pathways Strategy 2025–2035 to guide the improvement and expansion of shared pathways across our municipality. These pathways help residents and visitors walk, cycle, and move safely through the municipality. The draft strategy can be downloaded for you to read in the document's section of this page.
The Strategy sets out a staged plan to upgrade existing paths and build new ones, improving community health, encouraging active transport, and enhancing tourism experiences.
But we want to hear from you:
π Do you agree with the plan? π Are there other pathway improvements you would like Council to consider? π What should our priority pathway projects be?
Your feedback will help shape the final Strategy, improve the Council's grant applications, and gain support from the NT Government when infrastructure needs to be built or upgraded on its roads.
Important Things to Know
Council does not manage all roads in the Katherine municipality. Some are controlled by the Northern Territory Government (NTG), so delivering pathways on those roads requires NTG’s agreement and support.
Funding for shared pathways is limited. The council must seek external grants from the NT and Federal Governments. That is why we must prioritise which pathways we pursue funding for, and your input will help set those priorities.
The proposed Strategy sets out priorities for the next 10 years. Not everything can be delivered at once, but with a clear, community-supported plan, we can secure funding and deliver the best outcomes for Katherine.
Key Benefits of Shared Pathways
β Safer and more connected routes for walking, cycling, and mobility devices β Improved health and well-being through active lifestyles β Better visitor experiences and economic benefits β Lower transport emissions for a cleaner environment
What We Want to Know
Do you support the draft Shared Pathways Strategy?
Are there any pathway locations you think Council should consider adding?
Which of the proposed priority projects do you think are most important?
What features (eg lighting, seating, water bubblers, signage) are most important to you on shared pathways?
How to Have Your Say
Complete our quick survey by 30 June 2025. Your feedback will be used to finalise the Strategy and inform Council’s future funding priorities.
