Help Shape Community Safety in Katherine

Katherine Town Council is seeking expressions of interest from residents who wish to join the proposed Katherine Community Safety Action Group (CSAG).

Community safety is one of the most frequently raised issues in Katherine. Residents, businesses and community organisations have consistently called for greater collaboration, better communication and practical action to address local safety concerns.

In response, Council has endorsed establishing the Katherine Community Safety Action Group, a community-led forum that will bring together residents, businesses, First Nations leaders, young people, Council, Police, and government representatives to identify practical solutions to improve community safety, wellbeing, and social cohesion.

The Group will help inform the development of a Community Safety Action Plan for Katherine and support initiatives that strengthen safety and resilience across our community.

What will the Group do?

The Community Safety Action Group will:

  • Provide a community voice on local safety issues.
  • Help identify practical and achievable solutions.
  • Support evidence-based decision making.
  • Strengthen communication between community members, Council, Police and government agencies.
  • Help inform future community safety initiatives and priorities.

  • Can work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Are willing to listen, share ideas and contribute constructively.
